About the Department
Welcome to the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Curtin University of Technology, Bentley campus, Western Australia.
The Mission of our Department is to offer our students high quality education with a sound technological base, which engenders a broad awareness of social, cultural and ethical issues together with a sound understanding of the role of engineering in the community and business environment, leading to an internationally recognised degree.
Our challenge is the creation of a motivational, supportive, efficient and inclusive learning environment that harnesses the ability, creativity and initiatives of our students, and one which addresses the tremendous diversity in our student group, by catering to individual student needs. The Department is a melting pot for our students from over 30 countries and staff from over 12 countries providing a truly international environment in learning teaching and research.
The teaching of the Department's curriculum is given authority by its very strong research performance and industry involvement and interaction. The research activities is focused in its research groups, which include the Communications and Signal Processing Group (CSP), Communications Technology Research Group (CTRG), Renewable Energy and Power Systems Research Group (REEPS) and the Instrumentation and Control Systems Research Group (ICRG).
Key research partnerships include those with the Australian Cooperative Research Centre for Integrated Engineering Asset Management (CIEAM), CSIRO Intelligent Grid Cluster, Western Australian Telecommunications Research Institute (WATRI), Australian Research Council and various government and industry bodies.
The Department is also an authorised Cisco Networking Academy. The Department has a professional technical support team which are able to support students and researchers alike. Facilities include a PCB production facility, central workshop, IT support, electrical workshop, Power Systems Simulation laboratory, Communication Engineering laboratory, Electronic Design laboratory, Electrical Machines and Power Electronics laboratory, and Embedded Systems laboratory and more.
